NOW CLOSED
Well, I visited in Dec. '06 and my wife and I had the "pleasure" of stopping in. The food was great, but the service was disorganized and the staff seemed clueless. Service was slow, but we didn't really mind that night. However, we both had the feeling this place was about to close. It seemed like most of the staff was new, as if there had been a mass exodus of employees. That usually indicates a joint is near it's end. Sure enough, within several months, it had closed and is now so-so sports bar.

Last time I was there, the service was horrible. It was not very busy, but it was still slow. The beers tasted kind of weird. The pizza is decent, as it is at most Streets of New York restaurants, but the beer sucks. If you want decent pizza, go here. If you want good beer, this isn't the place. Try Four Peaks, up the road near ASU.

Went there last week....was really disapointed in all their beers. They all had a very tart off-taste....they probably had realized it as well since the place absolutely reaked of chlorine.

I have to admit that I was kind of doubtful about this place. I don't have a high regard for chains--not even the smaller ones. But this place surprised me. It's a rather classy joint inside; dark wood, good lighting. The time to come is happy hour. Their ales and their munchies are considerably discounted. I enjoyed a gently hopped IPA and a pretty decent version of an abbey-style ale (which at 9% alcohol was a one-pint affair). I made 2 stops there and enjoyed both of them.

I think they are no longer calling it uptown and are now identifying it as a streets of new york; which makes more sense to me considering the identical menu and lackluster beer. I had a honey, something or other that was in general not great and possessed a strange after taste that I could not place. Not an infection but some sort of contamination in the brewing process. The Pilsner was much like water. Not a hint of hops and little flavor. I do like the food but most streets of new york are inconsistent. Sometimes the food is great, other times ok. I might try more of there beers but I live on the west side and they rarely carry their own beer at the regular streets of new york.

As in my review of the other location, never been there. Had the beers at several beerfests. Nice heffe, good amber ale, and a nice wheat. Not great, but not crappy beers either. Give them a try and make your own decision!!

Visited this establishment over the Thanksgiving holiday. The overall look and feel of this brewbup is great. Had their pale and wheat and would recommend both. Food gets an N/A as I did not eat here. The new brewer appears to know his craft. The bar area is separate from the restaurant which has a better flow. Since it was raining I didn't get a chance to see the outdoor deck but it looked nice through the glass. The bartender and staff were on the ball when it came to the customers. Uptown will need to search hard to find an equal replacement for the bartender that is graduating this semester.

I'm happy to report that the beer at Uptown(both Tempe and Scotsdale) has greatly improved with the addition of two new brewers, one of whom brewed for us years ago.Even if I say so myself, I think we've now some of the best brews in the Valley. And the food is, as always, still great.

The service and food was fine, but the beers are lacking. The Pale Ale I ordered was funky so I sent it back. It tasted moldy. I got the IPA which was just OK, but the style was more like an American Pale Ale. Go to 4-peaks instead.

I moved from Phoenix a couple of years ago. At the time, this place had one of the best balanced and hoppiest IPA's around (my favorite ale), so when business brought me back, I eagerly planned my dinner around quaffing a few. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!!!! The beers here now are horrible, competing head to head with the likes of Budweiser for number of defects and lack of taste/pizzazz/flavor/redeeming qualities. I sat at the bar and when I told the bartender he had made a mistake becasue I had ordered an IPA, he said, "this is an IPA." He confided that the beers were no way as good as they used to be. They had been through two brewers since my last visit. In fact, he confided he wouldn't drink there; he goes to 4-Peaks. If this place was ever on your beer list, cross it off. On the other hand, if all you want is something to eat, the food is very good. I'm still on my quest for a decent IPA brewed in Arizona. Next month I'm off to Flagstaff.........

If you want a good place to eat, this is it. If you want good beer, I would suggest going elsewhere.

I love the Stout! I try to make it to Uptown Brewery at least once a week. The new Scottsdale location is great too! They have 2 locations that I know of!

I liked the interior decor, though it seemed more like Vegas than a brewpub. Great menu selection at fair prices. I really liked the hefeweizen, and the service was quite good. I'd definitely return, but there are so many other brewpubs in the area I need to research!
